Handle With Care (1964) is an incredibly rare, niche magic text written by the American magician and author Robin Robertson and published by Micky Hades Publications in Calgary, Canada.

Long before Robertson became well-known in the psychological community for his 16+ books on Jungian psychology and chaos theory, he was an avid sleight-of-hand creator. This 47-page, tape-bound manuscript is highly sought after by magic historians and card mechanics.

Core Focus & Contents

The booklet is essentially a collection of close-up magic, heavily focusing on sleight-of-hand card magic, with a bonus section dedicated to silk and liquid magic. Rather than standard beginner tricks, Robertson offers intricate handlings, card exchanges, and his own variations on classic themes from legendary magic figures like Dai Vernon.

The material is broken down into the following key routines and sections:

Card Controls & Revelations: Features foundational handlings like The Final Control, Remote Control, and Strictly Fantastic.

Packet & Plot Variations: Includes Robertson’s spin on classic card plots, such as Royal Follow the Leader, My First Four Ace Trick, and Dai  Vernon's Travelers - Redone.

The Anti-Oil-and-Water Theme: A major standout section of the book features three distinct handlings (Anti-oil-and-water, Robin's Anti-Oil-and-Water, and Turn-over Anti-Oil-and-Water). Unlike the classic "Oil and Water" routine where mixed red and black cards miraculously separate, these routines subvert the plot, often causing separated cards to cleanly mix or behave against the audience's expectations.

Mentalism & Predictions: Routines utilizing playing cards for mental effects, including Three Card Prediction and Easy Symbol Prediction.

The Bonus Section: Moves away from cards into prop-based magic. It features routines like Instant Knot Plus One Silk, Unprepared Silk Tangle, and a visual chemical magic effect titled Visible Liquid Color Change.
