packs flat – plays big

A novel plot and children’s magic, with a showy effect which looks big when set up on a table, but which takes up very little space in your case.

A witch doctors hut is shown opened and displayed on both sides and enclosed, and placed in full view on the table.

A cut out cage is show. Inside the cage is a picture of a piercing gorilla. As the story unfolds, the gorilla is removed the cage is opened, and the magician looks through the  cage bars at the audience. The cage can be seen empty. The empty cage is closed up and placed back towards the audience.

“The gorilla has escaped!” The gorilla is placed in a hut folder, and when the folder is opened, the picture of the gorilla is still there, but now it is shrunk to less than 1/3 of its original size. The magician tries again. This time the gorilla does vanish and the folder becomes a picture, of the witch doctor in a ceremonial dress. The magician then takes up the cage stating that it is still empty, but the children see a little bit of the grill of peeping up and down over the top of the cage. Eventually, the cage is turned around to show the gorilla as president inside, he has been magically recaptured.

A great vintage children’s effect, made in the UK circa 1990s by Edwin’s Magic Arts.
