The Devoe-Sterling Egg Bag (Harold Sterling & Gene DeVoe, and later popularized by Seńor Mardo) delivers a classic, interactive magic effect centered around a highly deceptive vanish and reproduction.
The Core Routine
The Setup: The magician introduces a small, often plaid or tartan cloth bag and a single, solid white egg.
The Vanish: The magician places the egg directly inside the bag. With a magical gesture or a quick twist, the bag is instantly shown to be completely empty.
The Convincer: To prove there are no hidden compartments or pockets, the magician turns the bag completely inside out and flattens, folds, or vigorously slaps it. There is no trace or bulge of the egg.
The Spectator Inspection: A volunteer is invited to reach their own hand deep inside the empty bag to verify that nothing is inside.
The Production: The magician turns the bag right-side out, reaches inside, and cleanly pulls the egg back out, perfectly intact.
Why the Sterling/Devoe Design is Unique
While the Malini egg bag uses a thin, dark silk material with a corner pocket, the Sterling/DeVoe design utilizes a slightly heavier, stiffer woolen or tartan fabric.
